Q: Diane Stock is running on A Better Haddam's ticket as ABH's First Selectman candidate and also on the Democratic party's ticket as their First Selectman's choice. How can this be?

A:  Diane Stock was endorsed by A Better Haddam Party at our August 25th caucus because we believe she is the best candidate for First Selectman.  In July, the A Better Haddam Town Committee invited all three First Selectmen candidates, Sean Donlan ( then the Haddam Democratic Town Committee's endorsed First Selectman candidate), Paul DeStefano, (the Republican's endorsed First Selectman candidate), and Diane Stock, (Democratic primary challenger for First Selectman), to share their views with ABH (and the public) if they wanted to be considered as our First Selectman Candidate.  Each of the candidates openly asked for ABH's endorsement for First Selectman.

A Better Haddam held it's Caucus on August 25th to ratify our slate of candidates.  ABH's Nomination Committee recommended that Diane Stock be our First Selectman candidate with Sean Moriarty and Mark Lundgren running as Selectmen and Tanja Moriarty running for the Board of Finance.  The ABH Town Committee approved of this slate by majority vote.  That is how Diane became the  First Selectman candidate on A Better Haddam's ticket.

On September 15, Diane Stock also won the Democratic primary against Sean Donlan, earning a solid 60% of the vote by town Democrats.  This is how she became the First Selectman candidate for the Democrats, as well.

Q. Why would a Major Party candidate (D or R), also seek endorsement from A Better Haddam Party, an independent, minor party?

A.  The advantage for the major party candidate is that he or she would appear twice on the ballot.  This person would  receive endorsement and support from a minor party (ABH) and therefore be strongly considered by Haddam's Independent voter population who make up a majority of the Town's registered voters.  The votes of the doubly-endorsed candidate's two lines (his or her major party and ABH's line) would be tallied together.

Q: So how do I vote for Diane?  On the ABH line or Democratic? Can I vote in both places?

A: No. You can only vote on one line for Diane Stock. ABH asks you vote for Diane Stock (and the whole ABH Team of Stock, Moriarty, Lundgren and Moriarty on  ABH line, Row C on the ballot.  Please read about our candidates. You may also vote for Diane Stock on the Democratic line, but either way, you can only vote for her once.   Should Diane collect the most cumulative votes, she will be seated as a Democrat, according to election laws..

Q: What about Sean Moriarty (an independent), Mark Lundgren (a Republican) and Tanja Moriarty (an independent)? How will they be seated if they win?

A: Because they are running on the ABH line (and not a major party line), these three will be seated as A Better Haddam Party on their respective boards if they prevail.

Q: Where do I vote on November 3?
