WHO WE ARE: A Better Haddam (ABH) is an official political party, registered with the State of Connecticut (equivalent to the Haddam Republicans, Democrats, etc.). We are dedicated to Haddam, Higganum, and Haddam Neck issues and to work together as citizens to maintain and improve our Town. A Better Haddam was formed in 2007 by a group of non-partisan voters who wanted more than the two party system offered.
Although our members are varied, we share a common characteristic: we are good, honest people willing to give up a few evenings a month to attend and/or participate in town meetings, to serve on boards, commissions, and committees, and to work for the greater good of our community. This is public service.
The philosophy of A Better Haddam is simple: active citizen involvement and open government.
We believe in the democratic process where townspeople and taxpayers are the legislative body.
We believe that teamwork and communication among town board members and the townspeople are necessary ingredients to successful town government.

We believe that an active, informed citizenry must be involved in the governing process to ensure an honest and effective government.
We recognize that local taxes are a necessary burden and public officials have a responsibility to control them.
We believe that town officials are public servants.
YOU ARE WELCOME: All residents are welcome to join A Better Haddam, or simply to come to a monthly meeting to share concerns. You do not have to change your voter affiliation to Unaffiliated or ABH to attend meetings, run for an office, or to work with your neighbors to improve our town.
The mission of A Better Haddam is “To strive to empower Haddam residents by providing non-partisan information about town issues and to promote outreach opportunities that will enable informed decisions about the issues that affect Haddam’s character and future.”
ABH Executive Board: Chairman Sean Moriarty, smmoriarty@comcast.net; Vice-Chairman Douglas Sumner, Treasurer Melissa Proulx, and Secretary Tanja Moriarty. Nomination committee: Diane Stock, Melissa Proulx. Fundraising: Jeanne Messick, Tanja Moriarty. Publicity: Erika Fleig, Dan Dachelet.
HOW TO SERVE YOUR TOWN THROUGH A BETTER HADDAM PARTY:
1. Share your concerns and ideas with an active Party. Positive changes in our town will not happen unless enough individuals get together under one group /party with a common objective: To make Haddam a better place by fighting for it!
2. Offer to serve on town commissions, committees and boards when a vacancy occurs or a new committee is formed. When a person steps down from his or her post on a town board or commission before his or her elected or appointed term is finished, or in the event that a new committee is formed people are needed to replace others or to sit on a new committee. The Board of Selectmen look to the chairs of official town parties (ABH, Democrats, and Republicans) to submit the names of residents who would like to be considered to serve.
ABH will announce vacancies and openings on this website and at our monthly meetings. If you would like to be considered to fill a particular vacancy, please contact ABH Chairman Sean Moriarty (smmoriarty@comcast.net) or Diane Stock (dianewaddlestock@comcast.net). You will be asked to present your resume to ABH party so it can be sent to the Board of Selectmen for their consideration.
